Measuring guide
How to measure for storm windows
All you need is a tape measure. We build to the actual opening, so measure carefully and always give the width first.
Three measurements
Width (A). Measure against the inner edge of the jamb boards, up against the blind stop. Take it at the top, the center and the bottom. Use the shortest measurement.
Height (B). Measure from the inner edge of the head board, up against the blind stop, down to the sill where the storm window will rest. Take it on both sides. Use the shortest measurement.
Unequal sashes (C). When the upper and lower glass are different heights (an oriel window), also measure from the top of the opening to the center of the meeting rail.
Important: always give the width dimension first. Before final installation, we recommend you caulk between the window and the blind stop, after double-checking the storm opening.
Measurement worksheet
Type your measurements in inches. The worksheet picks the shortest width and height for you, the way we'd read them.
Whole inches, decimals or fractions: 34, 34.5 or 34 1/2.
When you order, tell us
- Width (the actual opening)
- Height
- Model (140 or 240)
- Color
- Screening
- Oriel window: top to center of meeting rail
- Overlap application: note the actual size of the storm window
Give us the actual opening. We cut back 1/8″ on the width at the factory.
